Artists: Alec Galloway

Glass / Paintings

Alec was born in 1964, and brought up in Greenock on the River Clyde.

 

He is now married with three children, and lives in the West Coast of Scotland.

 

Influences and sources of inspiration have come from many people and places.

 

In glass, the work of John Piper, Patrick Reyntiens, William Wilson, Douglas Strachan, Harry Clark, Douglas Hogg, Maud Cotter

 

In fine art- Peter Lanyon and the St Ives school, The Scottish colourists, Joan Eardley, Franz Kline, Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell Eduardo Paolozzi, John Bellany, and Barbra Rae.

 

In general-life itself, the Scottish landscape, Northern light, River Clyde, crows, all good music, guitars, his wife and children.

 

B.A. First Class Honours in Architectural Stained Glass at Edinburgh College of Art(1992 - 1995).

Masters in Design at Edinburgh College of Art(1995 - 1997).

 

Since returning from the Middle East, Alec has resumed design, fabrication and consultation duties as 'CARA' Independant Glass, which first started in 1996. The existing portfolio has increased and benefitted from Middle East experience with ongoing projects in Dubai, Oman, Saudi Arabia, as well as the U.K. and Europe. He is also head of architectural glass at Edinburgh college of Art, a position he has held since 2000

 

His association with glass began in 1982 and he has been committed to all creative aspects of the material in all its myriad forms.

 

He is dedicated to the exploration of further possibilities in glass, especially in the realm of Public Art and Architecture. Since the emergence of his first public projects in the nineties his portfolio has continued expand, with projects now spread throughout the world.
