Up Close is an Exhibition centred on Inverclyde's resurgence. Along with developments planned by Inverclyde Council and Riverside Inverclyde.
River Clyde Homes will play a significant role in changing the face of the area. Over the next six years we will invest £83m in improving existing homes and a further £100m building more than 1000 new homes. If you close your eyes for a second and think about that, you can picture the radical improvement in the area. Given the scale of the planned improvements, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for residents to reflect on the evolution of Inverclyde over the centuries and share their hopes and aspirations for the future. That is why the centre piece of River Clyde Homes' Up Close campaign is an exhibition (to be housed in the Oak Mall) that draws on the memories of local people and enables them to influence our future plans.
The exhibition will be officially launched in May, when the faces of the "champions" will also be unveiled throughout the area. This will be the main focal point of Up Close and will be a multi-media presentation of photos, memories and artefacts relating to the evolution of social housing in Inverclyde. The exhibition will be people led and will reflect their memories, their feelings about Inverclyde today and their hopes for the future.
The exhibition will draw on an education programme involving primary school pupils who will be talking with their relatives about how they came to live in Inverclyde, how they lived and how they want to live in the future. Up Close aims to unite all generations in the community, encouraging people to share their stories of growing up in the area, the changes it has gone through, how it is currently viewed and their aims and aspirations for its future. The aim is to spark the imagination of our younger generations, creating a sense of family history and worth and we expect many moving and funny memories as well as innovative ideas for the future. As you know, I am especially keen that we engage young people as I hope we will be serving many of them in the future.
